Tiffani DeFrang. Hi” my name is Tiffani DeFrang. I am 14 years old and a freshman at Grandville High School. This is my 2nd year showing GLASS-ED. Currently I am showing “Training Level”. My horse Kodey (The Sports Promoter) is a Registered Appaloosa and my best friend. Kodey and I have achieved many goals and have a good time riding together.
Kodey and I started showing together seven years ago in Ludington, Michigan. We showed at 4-H shows and at Mason County Saddle Club shows. I rode both English and Western. In the Fall of 2004 we relocated to the Grandville, Michigan area. Kodey moved to Lamoreaux Ridge Equestrian Center and has loved it there ever since. I started taking lessons from Janine Holmes for a couple of months then changed and started riding with Cara Williams. Then in 2007 I met Sarah Engle and have been training with her ever since. Sarah introduced me to the “Art of Dressage“ and I was hooked. I am also a member of our 4H club - Dream Riders - and I like showing at the 4-H shows but I LOVE showing at the GLASS-ED shows. We practice all winter long and count down the days until the first show. At LREC the majority of the riders are in either our 4-H club or in GLASS-ED (or both). During show season, we all show together, travel together and have a ton of fun. We help each other out and we compete more like a team then on an individual basis.
Kodey and I have had so many experiences together in the last couple of years, but one sticks out in my mind. I don’t think I will ever live it down. I managed to fall off Kodey and break my wrist while he was standing still. I was practicing two days before show season up in Ludington….Kodey and I had just finished up a riding lesson and I was chatting with a friend of mine and we were both sitting on our horses in the center of the arena. When all of a sudden the neighbor started up a chainsaw; Kodey jumped to the side but I didn’t. I managed to fall off my horse standing still, broke my wrist in two places and couldn’t ride for eight weeks. Those were the longest eight weeks ever and to this day whenever someone says “Oh, I hope she doesn’t fall off” my mom reminds them that as long as Kodey’s moving, I won’t fall: ”Tiffani only falls off horses standing still..she’s fine”. Needless to say, I always try to stay moving!
I look forward to seeing everyone at the next show.
