Answer submitted by Kerry Petty: When jackets are waived it is due to MEDICAL reasons not just to make you comfortable. Show management is trying to keep riders safe from heat related medical problems! Please note that show management and the judges expect you to not wear jackets when they are waived. We are unconcerned about how you look without a coat or that you are tough enough to stand the heat but are concerned about your health.
Waiving the coat is a show management decision not the judge’s decision. If you think as a rider or parent that the coats should be waived I suggest you go ask as I will do for my students. Many times the show management is very busy with other issues as are the judges.
What to wear:
- A light colored shirt with sleeves either long or short. This means no sleeveless shirts or T-shirts. It also means that the new shirts that are a bold color with a white collar and sleeves are only allowed if a very light yellow, peach, crème, etc.
- You may not wear a stock tie or hunter tie.
- You must unbutton your top button

Answer submitted by Sue Hughes: If jackets are called, a rider must have on a short sleeved shirt which is to be open at the neck. The idea is, that if it is that hot, you do not need anything covering your throat area. No sleeveless shirts are allowed. Loves, still are optional as are black or white colors for them.
If you wish to wear your jacket with choker or stock, you certainly may.
